How to Get Started with NodeSquirrel
Welcome to the getting started guide for NodeSquirrel, the cloud backup solution for Drupal. This short video will walk through you through the steps to get started backing up your Drupal site to the cloud with NodeSquirrel.
Or follow the steps below:
First, download and install the latest version of Backup and Migrate for your version of Drupal. Make sure you're using version 3.0 for Drupal 7.
Once Backup and Migrate is enabled go to either:
Drupal 7: Admin > Configure > System > Backup and Migrate
Drupal 6: Admin > Content > Backup and Migrate
If this is your first time using Backup and Migrate, do a test backup to make sure the module is working properly. Always test your backups by restoring to a development version of your website.
Your site will need a unique secret key to send backups to NodeSquirrel. To create one click on the NodeSquirrel tab on the Backup and Migrate page of your site, then click the link in 'Need a Secret Key?'
You will be taken to the NodeSquirrel site where you can sign up for a new account or login with an existing account.
NodeSquirrel will generate a secret key for your site. You will need to copy that key and paste it into the NodeSquirrel settings on your site:
Click the 'Copy to Clipboard' link, or select the key and press Control-C (Windows) or Command-C (Mac) to copy.
Click the 'Go back to your site' link to be taken back to the NodeSquirrel settings on your Drupal site.
Paste the key into the box shown and click 'Save configuration'.
You will now be able to choose NodeSquirrel as a destination for manual and scheduled backups.
For a truly set-it-and-forget-it experience, you'll want to set up a backup schedule. These instructions walk you through that process.
